2006 was a very unique year for the Chandler High School Track and Field team.  The program had been very successful, with several top 3 finishes over the previous decade.  Unfortunately, in 2005 the team finished a disappointing 7th place after fielding one of the most talented teams in school history.  They rebounded with a vengeance in 2006 by winning their first girls track championship in school history.  It was a total team effort lead by Leah Benton and Callina Hurley in the sprints. Leah was a double winner in the 100 and 200 meters.  Larissa Matthews, Mischa Carson and Nicole Butenschoen dominated in both hurdle events.  Freshman Sydney Beatty scored in the all 3 distance events.  Alex Cunningham and Khadijah Muhammad added much need points in the 400 meters.  They relay teams ran extremely well winning the 4 x 100, the 4 x 400 and placing 5th in the 4 x 800. The 4 x 400 team ran the 3rd fastest time in Arizona State history at 3:52.31.  On the field side of things Mischa Carson scored in both jumps, winning the triple jump and placing 3rd in the long jump.  Alycia Wade and Sasha Stinchfield garnered much need in points in the Pole Vault.  Ciera Conerly placed 3rd in the Shot Put to round out the scoring. It was a total team effort.  This model of how to win state championships was set in place and has endured for almost a decade.
