Chandler native Cody Ransom graduated from Chandler High in 1994. While he played soccer and golf, Cody’s true passion is baseball. Cody added his talents to three college level teams: South Mountain Community College, Mesa State and Grand Canyon University. While playing shortstop at Grand Canyon, he hit .330 with eight homeruns and 48 RBIs, leading the team with 20 doubles. In 1998, the San Francisco Giants drafted Cody in the ninth round. Cody made his major league debut in a September 2001 game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Since 2005, Cody has played for several major league teams, including the Giants, Houston Astros, Philadelphia Phillies, and New York Yankees.  He was the first Yankee to homer in his first and second at bats for the team. In September of 2008, Cody made the last putout in Yankee Stadium history, and was also in the starting lineup the following season when the New Yankee Stadium opened.  Ransom spent part of the 2011 season with the hometown Arizona Diamondbacks.
